    The children’s artist

Jenny was extremely fond of children. Her pictures often depict the idealised image of a child with rosy cheeks and big, round eyes. The children are shown happy and playing, or helping the adults with various chores. Her son Curt often posed for her. Jenny has given him the same status as an adult in this picture: he is looking straight at us and meeting our gaze. Jenny died in 1946, at the age of ninety-two. Perhaps she lived to such a grand age by following her own words of wisdom: “Always be happy and think beautiful, friendly thoughts. Unkind thoughts make you old and wrinkly! Eat the right amount of food, but nothing too spicy. Rise early and go to bed early. Be thankful and laugh a lot – not least at yourself”.
