The Admiral´s Cabin
The admiral´s cabin on Kronan is located in the aft part of the upper deck. The most elaborate embellishment in the wreck has been recovered from the inside of the admiral´s cabin. Beautifully sculptured masks and shields have decorated this luxury compartment in the ship. Most of the sculptures found inside the ship were recovered from their original positions, which has contributed to obtaining a clearer understanding of the ship´s appearance, as well as the knowledge of that the wreck must have rested in this stationary position since the time of the sinking. This has been proved by the discovery of a great number of well preserved external sculptures found underneath the flat lying port side. However, they still rest in their safe environment on the bottom. Rectangular apertures are found above the gunports in the admiral´s cabin. Most likely, they have served a multipurpose as inlets for light, ventilation as well as possible ramparts for the admiral´s body guard during the battle.
