Here on the middle gun deck 36 out of a total of close to 120 guns, all bronze, were placed. All of them were 24-pounders and weighed 1 200 kgs each. Kronan was a full three decker built with three flush tiers of guns. The middle gun deck was used most frequently during sea-battles. In the aft part of the deck, the officers mess – the s c gunroom – was situated. Elaborate decorations in the shape of wooden sculptures have been recovered from the gun room. They embellished the mess in accordance with the standards of the officer´s elite. The simple gunners did not enjoy a similar environment. They worked, fought, ate and slept by their guns while at sea. The height on the middle deck is estimated to 160-180 cm in the aft part of the middle deck. The height is a little bit less in the forward part.
